Additional information

Issued to mark the 25th National Day of Oman in 1995, this piece commemorates Sultan Qaboos bin Said's consolidation of a modern state from what had been, at his 1970 accession, one of the most isolated and underdeveloped nations in the Gulf — fewer than ten kilometers of paved road in the entire country at the time. The Burj Al Sahwa, or Tower of Awakening, in Muscat was itself completed in 1990 as a deliberate architectural symbol of that transformation.

The .916 gold specification aligns with the traditional 22-karat standard favored across Gulf commemorative issues of this period.
