| Obverse description | The obverse field bears a bold Arabic inscription arranged in three lines reading 'السلطان عبد العزيز خان' (Sultan Abdulaziz Khan), the name and title of the Ottoman Sultan Abdulaziz. The lettering is rendered in a clear, deeply struck calligraphic style characteristic of mid-19th century Tunisian gold coinage.
