| Obverse description | Within a beaded inner circle surmounted by a royal crown, the Roman numeral V flanked by stylized floral ornaments is displayed at centre, with the date 1749 inscribed below. The surrounding legend, rendered in Latin capitals, identifies the issuing monarch. The overall design is stark and typographic, characteristic of Portuguese colonial copper coinage of the Joanine period. |
