The Reichskreditkassen were not conventional banks but military financial instruments — field institutions established specifically to issue occupation currency in territories seized by Wehrmacht forces. This 5 Reichsmark note circulated not in Germany itself but in occupied countries, where it was imposed at exchange rates that systematically extracted wealth from local economies.
