Reverse description A large, naturalistically rendered oak tree with a full, spreading canopy dominates the field, its trunk rising from a root base at the lower centre of the design. The date 1932 is split on either side of the trunk in the lower field, with the Karlsruhe mint mark G positioned directly below the trunk between two small decorative oak sprigs. A beaded inner border surrounds the design, and the circular legend ·EINIGKEIT·UND·RECHT·UND·FREIHEIT· — the first line of the German national anthem — runs along the upper periphery.

Additional information

This copper pattern was struck in 1932 as part of the Weimar Republic's final attempts to evaluate alternative coinage compositions during a period of severe fiscal contraction. The government was actively exploring cheaper metal options as silver supplies and minting budgets came under pressure from the Depression. Patterns in copper at this weight and diameter were never approved for circulation — the Republic itself collapsed before any such retooling could be implemented.
