Obverse description A boldly rendered German Imperial eagle stands facing left with wings raised and spread, its head turned to the left, perched atop a rocky base with talons visible. The numeral '5' appears prominently in the left field. The legend 'REICHSMARK' arcs around the periphery, divided on either side of the eagle, with the mint mark 'D' incuse at the base. The design is executed in high relief with finely detailed feathering throughout.
