The Rhineland had been under Allied occupation since the Armistice, with full evacuation not required under the Treaty of Versailles until 1935. The Stresemann-era diplomatic work — particularly the 1925 Locarno Treaties — accelerated that timeline considerably, and French troops withdrew five years early in June 1930. This coin was struck to mark that withdrawal, one of the few genuine foreign policy victories the Weimar Republic managed to deliver to a skeptical domestic audience.
The .500 fine silver content reflects the same austerity-driven alloy reduction applied across Weimar commemorative coinage from 1927 onward.
