| 裏面の説明 | A finely detailed, high-relief depiction of a Bateleur Eagle dominates the field, portrayed with wings dramatically spread and talons extended in a landing posture, with meticulous engraving of individual feathers conveying exceptional naturalistic detail. The bird faces left with its powerful beak slightly open, occupying the majority of the coin's surface. To the right of the eagle, the series legend THE ODYSSEY is inscribed in two lines, with BATELEUR EAGLE below in smaller lettering, and the denomination R5 rendered in an ornate cursive script beneath. The inscription 1oz Ag999 appears in the upper right field near the rim. A decorative border of concentric circle patterns fills the lower segment and outer border, complementing the contemporary design aesthetic of the series, with the engraver's initials AL visible in the lower right field. |

The Bateleur is one of southern Africa's most recognizable raptors and one of its most threatened — populations have collapsed by an estimated 80% over the past three generations, driven by poisoning, electrocution on power lines, and habitat loss across the savanna. The South African Mint's "Odyssey of the Sky" series draws on that conservation urgency, positioning legal-tender silver issues around endangered or vulnerable avifauna rather than purely numismatic tradition.
The series launched in the early 2020s as a collector-focused wildlife program, distinct from the Natura and Krugerrand lines.
