Issued to mark the first anniversary of the October 1973 War — known in Egypt as the Ramadan War and in Israel as the Yom Kippur War — this commemorative was part of a broader Egyptian program celebrating what Cairo officially framed as a military victory. The crossing of the Suez Canal on October 6, 1973, broke a three-year strategic stalemate following the catastrophic losses of 1967, and Sadat's government moved quickly to institutionalize that narrative in metal and monuments alike.
