Obverse description Central device depicts the Hawk of Quraish, the Syrian coat of arms, displayed with wings spread and a shield on its breast bearing three green stars; the hawk clutches a scroll inscribed with the country name in Arabic. The circular legend reading 'Syrian Arab Republic' in Arabic runs along the upper periphery, and two dates appear below the central device — the Gregorian year (AD) to the left and the Hijri year (AH) to the right, both rendered in Arabic-Indic numerals. The coin field is plain, and the design is framed by a beaded border.
