Additional information

Egypt's Cairo International Fair had been running since 1926, but the 1973 commemorative issue arrived in a charged year — the October War against Israel launched just months after this coin entered production planning. That the fair itself continued as a symbol of Egyptian economic ambition while the country was simultaneously preparing for its largest military operation since 1967 gives the issue an unintentional historical weight no mint record will document.
