Beschrijving voorzijde Central field dominated by the ornate tughra of Sultan Abdul Hamid II, rendered in fine calligraphic relief with characteristic looped and scrolled strokes. A floral rosette ornament appears to the upper right of the tughra. The denomination numeral ٥ (5) is inscribed below the tughra in Arabic script, with the abbreviated designation for Qirsh alongside. The design occupies most of the flat, unadorned field, consistent with Ottoman imperial coinage conventions.

Aanvullende informatie

Egypt's gold coinage of this period was struck under Ottoman suzerainty but effectively under British financial control following the 1882 occupation — an arrangement that made the khedival mint a peculiar hybrid of two competing imperial bureaucracies. The tiny fractional gold denominations like this piece saw limited actual circulation; gold of any weight was hoarded almost immediately upon issue in the Delta markets.

KM#298 spans a nineteen-year production window across multiple regnal years, and date-specific mintages vary considerably.
