Beschrijving keerzijde The large Arabic numeral 5 dominates the central field as the principal denomination indicator. Above it, a curved Arabic legend reading 'Republic of the Sudan' spans the upper portion of the field. Below the numeral, the denomination in Arabic script 'خمسة قروش' (five qirsh) is inscribed. Two decorative flowering plant sprigs flank the numeral on either side, their blooms adding botanical ornamentation to the composition. A fine beaded border encircles the entire design.

Aanvullende informatie

By 1987, Sudan's economy was buckling under the strain of civil war, refugee crises, and chronic foreign debt. The nickel brass alloy chosen for this issue was a cost-driven compromise — the country had cycled through several compositional changes across its coinage in the preceding decade as metal costs and import constraints forced the mint's hand. The 5 Qirsh would survive only a few more years as a meaningful denomination before inflation rendered it effectively worthless.
