| Obverse description | Central device depicts the national emblem of Sudan: a secretary bird with wings displayed, facing left, set upon a shield. A ribbon below the bird bears the motto in Arabic, and a scroll inscribed with the Arabic motto 'النصر لنا' (The victory is ours) appears above the bird's head. The Hijri year ١٤٠٠ appears to the left of the emblem and the Gregorian year ١٩٨٠ to the right. The Arabic legend 'جمهورية السودان الديمقراطية' (Democratic Republic of Sudan) curves along the lower rim. The coin is encircled by a beaded border. |
