| 裏面の説明 | Central design features a rotated square (lozenge-shaped) frame containing the Arabic numeral '5' at the top and the denomination word 'قرش' (Qirsh) immediately below, all set against an elaborately decorated background of stylized arabesque scrollwork and floral motifs filling the field. Two five-pointed stars flank the central design at the mid-left and mid-right. The circular legend 'الجمهورية السورية' (Syrian Republic) curves along the lower periphery, enclosed within a beaded border. |

Syria's coinage during this period was issued under the authority of the newly independent republic, which had shed its French Mandate status only in 1946. The transition from French-controlled Banque de Syrie et du Liban to a national monetary authority was neither clean nor immediate — France retained significant financial influence well into the early 1950s, and the physical production of these coins was contracted to foreign mints rather than any domestic facility.
The 1948–1955 date range spans the political chaos following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War and three separate military coups.
