| Obverse description | Central field features an ornate tughra of Amanullah Khan enclosed within a circular wreath of two branches — a palm frond to the right and a leafy branch to the left — tied at the base. The tughra incorporates the Arabic phrase 'Allah' within its intricate calligraphic design. The Hijri date 1304 appears below the tughra within the wreath. The legend 'افغانستان' (Afghanistan) is inscribed in Arabic script across the upper field above the central device. |

| Additional information |
Amanullah Khan's modernization drive in the early 1920s included a wholesale restructuring of Afghan coinage, moving the country toward a decimalized system modeled partly on European precedents. The 5 Pul sat at the lowest tier of that new structure. Amanullah's reforms ultimately outpaced popular tolerance — his abdication in 1929, following the Saqqawist uprising, cut short what had been the most ambitious administrative overhaul in Afghan monetary history to that point.
