Obverse description Central device features a stylized eagle of Saladin with spread wings, rendered in relief against a mirror-polished field. Above the eagle, the Arabic legend جمهورية مصر العربية (Arab Republic of Egypt) appears in two lines within an ornamental cartouche surmounted by a lotus flower finial. The Latin abbreviation A·R·E is inscribed across the eagle's body. The denomination 5 LE appears to the left in Latin numerals and ٥ جـ in Eastern Arabic numerals to the right, with the Hijri date 1415 and Gregorian date 1994 flanking the base on both sides in their respective scripts.
