The Temple of Edfu, dedicated to Horus and constructed between 237 and 57 BC under the Ptolemaic dynasty, is the best-preserved ancient temple in Egypt — largely because it was buried under Nile silt and village settlements until excavation in the 1860s. That burial is the reason anything survives at all.
