Egypt launched its domestic television service in 1960, making the 1985 issue a commemoration of the 25th anniversary rather than a jubilee of any broadcasting milestone tied to a monarchy or political transition. The service debuted July 21st of that year, operated initially by a single channel out of Cairo under direct state control — a deliberate instrument of Nasserist national messaging from its first broadcast.
