Bradbury Wilkinson printed the Royal Bank of Scotland's notes from their New Malden facility for decades, and this series reflects the tail end of that relationship — BWC was acquired by American Banknote Corporation in 1990, effectively ending over a century of independent operation. The transition between Chief Cashiers visible across this run, Winter giving way to Maiden, is a useful dating tool; the removal of sorting marks between the 1983 and 1984 Winter dates marks a quiet administrative change in how returned notes were processed and tracked.
