Obverse description The upper portion carries the Royal Bank of Scotland arms vignette — a central crowned shield flanked by a lion and unicorn supporters, with the word POUNDS printed in red at either side. A large guilloche panel occupies the left margin. The bank title is set in bold letterpress script across the centre, with the promise-to-pay clause and denomination FIVE POUNDS in red underprint below, followed by the place, date, and two manuscript signatures at foot right.
