Issued to commemorate the October 1973 war — known in Egypt as the "Ramadan War" and in Israel as the Yom Kippur War — this gold piece appeared within a year of the crossing of the Suez Canal, when Egyptian forces breached the Bar-Lev Line in what the Sadat government treated as a decisive military and psychological victory despite the conflict's ambiguous conclusion. The crossing itself, on October 6th, remains a national holiday in Egypt.
