| Obverse description | Central field features the Sudanese state emblem: a secretary bird with outstretched wings displayed, standing upon a ribbon bearing the Arabic legend of the Democratic Republic of Sudan. A decorative shield is centred on the bird's breast. Flanking the emblem to the left is the Arabic denomination '٥ جنيهات' and to the right the Latin numeral '5' with 'L.S.' above. The dual-date legend '١٣٩٨ ١٩٧٨' appears along the lower rim in both Hijri and Gregorian numerals. The Arabic victory motto 'النصر لنا' is inscribed at the top of the field. A beaded border runs along the inner edge of the coin. |
