Obverse description The Sudanese state eagle displayed with wings spread occupies the central field, bearing a scroll inscribed with the Arabic legend of the republic on its breast and a ribbon above. The denomination is expressed bilingually to the left in Arabic numerals and script (٥ جنيهات) and to the right in Latin characters (Ls. 5). The legend SUDAN appears along the lower rim, flanked by the Hijri year ١٤٠١ to the right and the Gregorian year ١٩٨١ to the left. The entire design is framed by a beaded border.
