| Obverse description | The obverse features a plain field dominated by the large Arabic numeral '٥' (5) at centre, denoting the face value. The Arabic legend 'جمهورية مصر العربية' (Arab Republic of Egypt) curves along the upper portion of the field, while the denomination 'جنيهات' (Pounds) and the dual date '١٤٢٠ / ١٩٩٩' (AH 1420 / AD 1999) appear in the lower field. A decorative ornamental device is positioned at the very bottom of the field. The coin is surrounded by a reeded border with a fine dentilated inner rim. |
