正面描述 Laureate and draped bust of King George III facing right, rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style by Benedetto Pistrucci. The king's head is crowned with a wreath of laurel, with flowing curls visible at the nape of the neck. The encircling legend reads GEORGIUS III D: G: BRITANNIARUM REX F: D:, with the date 1820 prominently placed in the lower exergue. The engraver's name PISTRUCCI appears spaced along the lower portion of the legend. The portrait exhibits exceptional detail and artistic refinement characteristic of Pistrucci's finest work.

附加信息

This is a pattern issue from the final year of George III's reign — he died in January 1820 after a decade of complete incapacity, blind and likely suffering from porphyria or bipolar disorder, sequestered at Windsor. The coin was never authorized for circulation. Pistrucci's work dominated Royal Mint pattern production in this period, and the St. George and dragon reverse he cut for the 1818–1820 sovereign series was directly connected to patterns at this denomination.

Spink 3783 places it among the rarest documented English gold patterns of the early nineteenth century. Surviving examples are almost exclusively found in institutional or major private collections.
