The Food and Agriculture Organization, founded in Quebec City in October 1945, has been commemorated on coinage by member states since the early 1970s — Egypt among the most prolific participants in those series. This 2015 issue marks the organization's seventieth anniversary. Egypt's FAO commemoratives were frequently issued in .720 silver rather than finer alloys, a composition the Central Bank leaned on throughout its commemorative program of this period.
