Issued to mark the Faculty of Fine Arts in Alexandria, one of Egypt's oldest dedicated arts institutions, founded in 1957 under the broader cultural expansion programs of the Nasser government. The .720 silver standard used here was Egypt's workhorse commemorative alloy throughout the 1980s — cheaper than sterling, but still meaningful enough to distinguish these limited issues from base-metal circulation coinage.
