Beschrijving keerzijde A Yeoman Warder of the Tower of London stands in full ceremonial dress, facing forward in a dignified posture and holding his partisan axe upright before him. The figure is depicted in bold relief, overlapping with a detailed representation of a section of the Tower of London's historic stone walls at Mint Street, providing architectural context and depth to the composition. The design, executed by Glyn Davies, evokes the centuries-old tradition of the Royal Guard. The legend 'TOWER OF LONDON' arcs above the central device, with the designer's initials 'GD' incorporated into the design field.

Aanvullende informatie

Piedfort coins — struck at twice the standard planchet thickness using the same dies — have been a Royal Mint collectible format since their modern revival in 1982, initially issued alongside standard proof sets. This 2019 piece marks the 650th anniversary of the Yeoman Warders, the ceremonial guardians of the Tower of London whose founding is traditionally dated to Edward IV's reign in 1369, though the earliest reliable documentary evidence places them more firmly in the Tudor period under Henry VII.
