The Royal British Legion was founded in 1921, amalgamating four separate ex-servicemen's organisations that had formed independently in the years immediately following the Armistice. The "Comradeship" theme in this series draws directly on the Legion's founding principle — that mutual support among veterans was a civic obligation, not charity. Jersey issued several coins in this WWI centenary run between 2014 and 2018, each tied to a Legion value.
Gold-plated steel of this type was widely adopted by smaller issuing authorities during the commemorative coin boom of the 2010s, producing crown-sized pieces at accessible price points with no pretense of bullion value.
