Churchill's connection to Guernsey is worth noting precisely because it is so often misrepresented: his 1940 decision to demilitarize and abandon the Channel Islands to German occupation was deeply unpopular and remains contested in the islands to that day. A commemorative issue from Guernsey honoring him carries an irony that most buyers never register.
