Obverse description The fifth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark, is portrayed in right-facing profile occupying the central field. The Queen wears the George IV State Diadem, rendered in fine relief with floral and jewelled detailing, and a drop earring is visible. The encircling legend reads ELIZABETH II · D · G · REG · F · D · 5 POUNDS · 2018, divided across the upper and lower periphery, with the engraver's initials J.C. incuse below the truncation. The portrait is executed in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field, characteristic of Royal Mint proof coinage of this period.
