The White Greyhound of Richmond is one of the Queen's Beasts series, a sequence of ten heraldic supporters drawn from the beasts that flanked the young Elizabeth II's throne at her 1953 coronation. The greyhound specifically derives from the heraldry of the Beaufort family, passing through John of Gaunt to the Tudor line — Henry VII used it as a personal badge, and it carried sufficient dynastic weight to survive into the official royal heraldry centuries later.
The series concluded in 2021, making this among the final issues in the run before the Royal Mint moved on to successor programs.
