Reverse description Large, high-relief right-facing veiled bust of Queen Victoria in the celebrated Jubilee portrait, depicting the Queen wearing her small crown and a veil draped over her head and shoulders, along with a necklace. The legend 'VICTORIA D : G : BRITT : REG : F : D :' arcs around the upper and lateral periphery of the field, closely following the denticled border. The engraver's initials 'LB' appear in the lower field below the truncation, referencing Luigi Senerchia Badia's adaptation of the original Jubilee coinage portrait.

Additional information

This piece was issued to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Queen Victoria, born 24 May 1819. The Isle of Man Treasury has long operated outside the constraints of Royal Mint exclusivity, giving it latitude to produce commemorative gold at specifications and price points the mainland rarely attempts. The 39.94g weight places it deliberately close to — but distinct from — a standard five-sovereign equivalent, a commercial decision as much as a numismatic one.
