Reverse description The reverse features a composite design commemorating Company Sergeant Major Stanley Elton Hollis VC, the only soldier to be awarded the Victoria Cross on D-Day, 6 June 1944. To the left, a relief scene depicts a uniformed soldier in action during the Normandy landings. To the right, a portrait bust of Hollis faces left in high relief against a plain rectangular panel, with the motto FOR VALOUR inscribed above. Below the portrait panel, a detailed depiction of the Victoria Cross medal is rendered in the lower central field. The arc legend STANLEY ELTON HOLLIS and NORMANDY 1944 frame the upper field, while FIVE POUNDS appears along the lower rim.
