附加信息

The Victoria Cross commemorated here was awarded to Piper Daniel Laidlaw of the 7th Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers at the Battle of Loos in September 1915. With his company pinned down and immobilized by gas, Laidlaw climbed onto the parapet under heavy fire and played his pipes to rally the troops forward — an act that earned him the VC and the enduring nickname "Piper of Loos." He was wounded during the assault but continued playing.

Alderney has issued VC commemoratives for numerous individual recipients. Laidlaw survived the war, dying in 1950.
