Alderney, the smallest of the four main Channel Islands, was the only British territory to be entirely evacuated before German occupation in June 1940 — its civilian population removed by the British government just days before troops arrived. It remained under occupation until May 1945, making its liberation a particularly charged local memory. This platinum issue marks the 70th anniversary of that event.
