| 表面の説明 | The fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, dominates the obverse as a right-facing diademed and draped bust set within a polished mirror field. The Queen is depicted wearing the George IV State Diadem and a drop earring, rendered with fine engraving detail characteristic of the proof finish. The encircling Latin legend reads ELIZABETH·II·D·G REG·F·D·2014, denoting her titles as Queen and Defender of the Faith, with the date 2014 positioned in the lower right. The engraver's initials IRB appear incuse on the truncation of the neck. |

Issued to mark the 175th anniversary of the completion of Trafalgar Square, a project plagued from the start by cost overruns, political infighting, and a twenty-year construction saga that began in 1844. Nelson's Column itself was funded partly by public subscription after Parliament balked at the full expense. The square's original designer, Charles Barry, was essentially elbowed aside by a committee that couldn't agree on anything.
The Royal Mint produced this in its standard crown-sized silver proof format, a format it has issued continuously in this weight and diameter since decimalisation.
