Additional information

Alderney, the smallest of the three principal Channel Islands, has no independent monetary authority and issues commemorative coins largely as a licensing arrangement — the pieces are legal tender in name but exist primarily for the collector market. This 2004 issue marks the 75th anniversary of the Royal Scot locomotive's first run to Glasgow in 1927, a journey that helped establish the London Midland and Scottish Railway's prestige on the West Coast Main Line.
