Alderney's commemorative program has long operated as a revenue vehicle for the Crown Dependency, issuing collector pieces with no meaningful circulation life. This 2015 five-pound copper-nickel entry honors "The Man" — almost certainly a reference to the 2015 Rugby World Cup campaign, which England hosted and for which several Channel Island issuers produced themed coinage. England's tournament ended in group-stage elimination, the first host nation to suffer that fate.
