Beschrijving keerzijde A high-relief depiction of the dragon from the Legend of Saint George, shown perched atop a rocky mountain and fiercely surveilling the cowering town below. The composition captures the moment of dread as the beast dominates the landscape in dynamic sculptural form, recalling the Pistrucci engraving tradition. The inscriptions THE LEGEND OF SAINT GEORGE and THE TOWN IN FEAR are arranged within the design, serving as narrative titles for this episode of the series.

Aanvullende informatie

This piedfort is the third release in Gibraltar's ongoing Saint George narrative series, which frames the legend episodically across multiple annual issues rather than as a single commemorative. Piedforts — struck on blanks of double standard thickness — have been produced sporadically in British and Crown Dependency coinage since at least the 16th century, originally as presentation pieces for assay purposes rather than general distribution.

Gibraltar's royal warrant to issue commemorative coinage derives from its status as a British Overseas Territory, a detail that occasionally draws scrutiny given the territory's contested sovereignty with Spain.
