Concorde's first flight took place on 2 March 1969 from Toulouse, making 2019 the fiftieth anniversary of that milestone — though the aircraft itself never served Alderney in any operational sense. The island's commemorative program has leaned heavily on British aviation nostalgia since the early 2000s, and this issue fits squarely within that pattern.
Concorde was retired in October 2003 following the fallout from the Air France Flight 4590 crash at Gonesse in July 2000, which destroyed public confidence even after the type was temporarily returned to service.
