Alderney's commemorative program has long operated as a revenue-generating vehicle for the Bailiwick of Guernsey, which administers the island and licenses its coin issues through the Royal Mint and private minting houses. The 2019 Queen Victoria bicentenary fell within a crowded commemorative market — the UK itself issued multiple competing pieces the same year — making Alderney's entry one of several dozen worldwide issues marking the same anniversary.
Victoria was born 24 May 1819. She died having never visited Alderney.
