Jersey's 2009 issue belongs to a broader Royal Mint-affiliated series reviving Benedetto Pistrucci's St. George design, originally cut for the 1817 sovereign and never fully surrendered to another artist despite repeated official attempts to replace it. Pistrucci himself refused to provide his models to other engravers, which locked the Royal Mint into his design far longer than intended.
As a Crown dependency, Jersey commissions coinage independently but draws heavily on Royal Mint production relationships, making this silver issue as much a British minting exercise as a Jersey one.
