The Sapphire Jubilee — marking 65 years on the throne — had no precedent in British royal history; no previous monarch had reached it. The Royal Mint struck its own commemorative that year, but Guernsey, along with several other Crown Dependencies, issued independently under its own authority, producing small gold proof runs aimed squarely at the collector market rather than any circulation need.
