Alderney, though a Crown Dependency, issues coins under licence through the Royal Mint and Pobjoy Mint for the collector market — it has no independent monetary policy and these pieces never circulate. The Salvation Army was founded in London in 1865 by William Booth, originally as the Christian Mission in Whitechapel, and adopted its military-style structure and name in 1878. The organisation's brass bands, still closely associated with its public identity, began as a deliberate strategy to draw crowds and drown out hecklers at outdoor meetings.
