Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Strafford, served as Charles I's chief enforcer in Ireland and the north of England before Parliament turned against him. His attainder and execution in 1641 — signed reluctantly by the king himself — is often cited as the point at which civil war became inevitable. Charles never forgave himself for it.
Jersey's "Revolution to Restoration" series used the island's unusual Civil War history as its hook: Jersey held for the Crown throughout the Interregnum, sheltering the future Charles II at Elizabeth Castle in 1646.
