The dragon stands astride and grasps a quartered heraldic shield bearing four lions passant guardant, emblematic of the arms of Llywelyn the Great. The circular legend RED DRAGON OF WALES is inscribed around the left and lower periphery, with the date 2021 appearing at the upper field flanked by pellets.
