Issued to commemorate the Red Arrows, the RAF Aerobatic Team that has performed continuously since 1965 — the year this coin marks as the team's 50th anniversary. The Red Arrows are operated by the RAF but fall under the administrative control of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team based at RAF Scampton, and their selection as a commemorative subject by Jersey reflects the Channel Islands' long tradition of issuing topical British military and royal themes on circulating-format crown-sized pieces.
