| Additional information |
Guernsey has issued commemorative five-pound pieces with reliable regularity since the 1970s, contracting most production to the Royal Mint or private mints on the mainland rather than striking locally. This silver version of the 2006 birthday issue carries selective gold ink — a finishing technique that became fashionable among Commonwealth territories in the early 2000s and has since fallen out of critical favor among serious collectors. The ink application is notoriously inconsistent across surviving examples.
